Understanding The Working Of Keys With Locks

Affordable And Reliable Locksmith Service

We all have keys and locks for our homes, offices, cars, doors, mailboxes, storage space. We all possess keyrings full of keys all the time so that we can lock our things and make them secure and we will always need to access those things again. Every lock has a specific key and the lock can only be unlocked by that specific key.

What is the key?

Key is considered the greatest invention after the wheel. The concept of the key was developed 6000 years ago. It has different shapes and materials. Starting from wood and rocks, now it comes in the form of electronic keys and metal keys. The materials may have changed from time to time, but the functionality of the key always remained the same and its purpose also.

How many types of keys are there?

Based on the variations there are about 20 different kinds of keys. Starting from skeletons to the most latest transponder keys and smart keys. From large-sized to small enough to fit in your pocket. It depends on your demand which key you actually want to use and for what purpose.

How does the key work?

The most commonly used key, which is used widely and most frequently, is nothing but a piece of metal which is about 2 inches long with both sides carved with a specific design or pattern. These patterns on the sides of the keys are unique for every lock. To use it all you have to do is to insert the key in the lock and apply torque to rotate it clockwise or anticlockwise. It will open your lock instantly, but the pattern of the key must match the pattern of your lock otherwise it will not work.

Nowadays keys are evolved into the transponder keys. Now you might be wondering what a transponder key is. Well, it is quite similar to a normal key, but it has a small chip attached with it which is enclosed in the plastic part of the key. Initially, these keys were used in the hotel rooms, but now they are getting popularity in the automobile industry also. These keys help to make the vehicles more secure as it is really difficult to break in using a duplicate key because the transponder chip acts as an authenticator to verify if the key that is inserted in the lock is genuine or not.
